Where You Might Turn Up

July10

Have you ever heard the phrase; ‘knowledge is power’? I have the privilege of being a friend to a guy called Dixon. I met Dixon when I got my first job in the information technology field. He was my colleague back then. He was fond of using the phrase.

Dixon’s excellent IT skills, proactive nature, risk taking and positive outlook towards life enables him to succeed in the various business ventures that he undertakes. What most of us would spend all our employment years secretly dreaming about is something that Dixon easily discusses with others. He will start a conversation with you and build his castles in the air as you are summing up the odds and writing off his project in your mind. Next thing you know, Dixon is doing it!

For the cost of friendship, he can easily outline your strengths for you, recommend something you can do with them and even give you tips on how to go about the implementation! – he stimulates you with images of the destination and gives you the map to get there. Good thing is that he is not the type that keeps crawling all over you if you are not ready to travel yet.

Sitting blankly in front of my computer has reminded me just how much information I have at my disposal. With the World Wide Web at my fingertips, I can acquire knowledge on any subject that I choose. Of course you know the security threat that poses. I believe you can assemble a bomb in your kitchen by following simple instructions from a web site!

Just to test how much information there is on the Internet, type your name into a search engine like google and see what comes up. When I did that some time ago, I turned up in a database of payment defaulters for an organization I had registered in almost ten years ago! Of course I paid up my subscription to have my name removed from there.

Doing a search on the Internet is an excellent way to keep track of your long lost friends. Other people can use the same method to find out about you. Prospective employers are especially fond of this. Just make sure that your name and pictures appear only in clean web sites!

Have a safe weekend!
